“A masterclass in storytelling

and photography . . .

Simply stunning"

Marylebone Birdwatching Society

I, Paul Alistair Collins, offer a variety of wildlife photography talks for camera clubs, societies, and museums across the UK. As a professional photographer, guide and TV producer, I cover techniques, fascinating insights into animal behaviour, and stories from the field.

Standard talks last around an hour, but I’m happy to tailor the photography lecture to your needs - whether it’s a short 20 minute session or a pair of 45-minute talks for a longer evening.

A WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER'S YEAR

A seasonal voyage across the British Isles in search of all kinds of wildlife - from peregrines hunting along coastal cliffs, and dragonfly courtships on chalk streams, to rare bustards and red deer rutting on the Scottish moors.

I tell the story behind each photo, sharing my creative process and  techniques I use to get close to animals.

RAINFOREST STORIES

Lying at the centre of the New World, connecting North and South America, Panama is a wildlife paradise - home to a spectacular 970+ birds, not to mention sloths, howler monkeys and tree-frogs.

This talk explores the life and photo opportunities that can be found at every level of the rainforest - from the upper canopy 200m up in the clouds, to the dark secrets of the forest floor.

EUROPE WILDLIFE ROADSHOW

A whistle-stop tour of Europe's greatest wildlife destinations, and the stories behind the photos - from eagles in the Spanish Pyrenees, and wolves in Italy's Abruzzo, to pelicans and jackals on Lake Kerkini.

I will also talk about my methods and why it pays to revisit the same places over many seasons.

SVALBARD: LIFE ON THE COLD EDGE

At 78 degrees north, between Norway and the North Pole, Svalbard's unique landscapes and wildlife make it an irresistible destination for photographers.

This talk is a photographic journey across land and sea, fjords and tundra, celebrating the best of Arctic wildlife under the midnight sun - from Arctic Foxes hunting seabirds, to the courtship rituals of Red-Throated Diver and Ptarmigan.

THE ART OF SEEING

Photography is often thought of as a technical craft of what lenses and settings to use. But the real challenge lies in learning how to see and create unique images.

This talk explores the journey of developing a more intuitive photographic eye. I’ll share how to recognise what’s missing from a scene, slow down, break free from creative ruts, experiment, and begin to see light, texture and colour in a more deliberate way.

SMALL WORLD -
THE ART OF MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY

There is an entire magical world of detail and behaviour unfolding beneath our feet - one that most of us rarely stop to notice.

This talk is an invitation to slow down and look closer. I explore the intricate lives of small creatures and the quiet beauty of overlooked moments - from dragonfly courtship dances to frogs emerging on warm summer nights, and the subtle textures that winter leaves behind.
