SCOTTISH SHORES
EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND

Join Paul for a 1-day workshop capturing shorebirds and wild geese
- the best of Scotland's winter coastal wildlife.
Join award-winning photographer Paul Alistair Collins for a day photographing shorebirds along the picturesque East Lothian coastline. We will spend the morning at North Berwick, one of the best places in the UK to photograph shorebirds close-up and at eye level in amazing light. Under my guidance, you'll learn how to capture portraits, mood and motion, against the iconic backdrop of Bass Rock.
After lunch, we'll head to Aberlady Bay, a special reserve of cliffs, sand-dunes and tidal mudflats. There is much unique fauna and flora here, from Short-Eared Owls and Roe Deer to winter thrushes. On the sand-dunes you will learn to photograph dramatic landscapes with strong composition and lighting. At sunset, we will watch for the spectacular return of the 20,000 Pink-Footed Geese which overwinter here - a spectacular sight when the skies are golden as they often are at this time of year.

LOCATION
We will divide the day between North Berwick and Aberlady Bay, on the East Lothian coast.
These coastal locations in winter are some of the UK's prime spots for shorebird and wild geese gatherings, with over 20,000 pink-footed geese (and sometimes rarer snow geese) roosting in the area. We'll visit the best areas along this coastline to capture the spectacle.

WHAT MAKES THIS WORKSHOP FOR YOU?
For this workshop, we will visit Scotland's most spectacular sites for winter bird photography, during the peak season for wild geese and shorebird migrations.
With expert photographic guidance from award-winning photographer Paul Alistair Collins, we'll ensure you capture truly unique images. Paul lived in Edinburgh for 5 years and has been running workshops at these sites each winter since 2009. We believe no one knows a land better than those who’ve lived there and travelled its length and breadth, and Paul will help you make the most of every opportunity.
