Dancing cranes and majestic waterfowl are among the winter highlights at WWT Slimbridge reserve
W O R K S H O P O V E R V I E W
The aim of this beginner class is to help you capture beautiful portraits and behavioural photos of birds found on the reserve and in its exotic collections, Every winter, the wetlands are deliberately flooded, meaning that we can expect to see up to 50,000 waterfowl - among them White-Fronted Geese, Golden Plover, Pintail, Wigeon and Lapwing. Occasionally raptors such as Peregrine, or Goshawk may hunt for sitting ducks, resulting in spectacular chases. This is also one of the best places in the country to see Common Cranes, and we will try to photograph their elegant courtship dance.
From bird-flight to portraiture, you'll hone techniques on captive wildfowl such as Goldeneye, Smew, Eider and exotic ducks.
At sunset, we'll be in position at the lakeside to photograph the mesmerising sight of hundreds of Bewick's Swans flying into roost.

Travel
We will meet at Bristol Temple Meads or a pre-agreed meeting point. Upon booking, a map meeting point position will be sent.
Walking
Light gentle walking on tarmac pathways. Please contact me beforehand to discuss suitability and if you have any mobility issues.
Food & Facilities
There are cafe and toilet facilities at the WWT reserve.
Group Size & Tuition
With a maximum of 5 participants, our small group size ensures everyone has a better personal experience. I will be on hand to answer your questions and help you with observing animals whatever your skillset.
Photo Gear
This workshop will suit you whatever your gear and skillset - the plan will adapt for you whether you have an iPhone or the latest lens on the market. For your best enjoyment, I recommend that you bring a bridge or DSLR camera with a zoom lens in the 75-300mm range; longer lenses are good for flight shots. Clothing
It is important that participants wear appropriate clothing for the season and activities. A recommended kit list will be sent upon sign-up.
